Abstract
PURPOSE:To allow an operation for a long time by providing a stack heat accumulating layer made of Li2SO4-NaCl in the middle of a stack of element batteries and heating agent pellets. CONSTITUTION:One or multiple layers of fused salt heat accumulating layers 6 mainly made of lithium sulfate-sodium chloride are arranged in the middle of a stack of Li/LiCl-KCl/FeS2 batteries 4 and heating agent pellets 5, and fused salt heat accumulating layers 7 and 8 are provided on both ends of the stack. Heat is generated from the interior of the laminated bodies of the stack when the internal temperature of the batteries 4 is decreased to about 500 deg.C. When the stack temperature is decreased to 500 deg.C or below, a liquid starts to be converted into a solid, the generation of the latent heat is stopped when the solidification is completed, and the temperature of the heat accumulating layers 6-8 is decreased at the cooling speed of the stack. The cooling speed of the stack is thereby suppressed, thus allowing an operation for a long time.
