Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a heat accumulating material having a low melting point from deteriorating in a heat accumulator, by arranging a heat accumulating material having a high melting point adjacent to an exhaust gas passage and the heat accumulating material having a low melting point to the outside thereof. CONSTITUTION:The heat of exhaust is first accumulation in the heat accumulating material 33 having a high melting point situated adjacent to the exhuast gas passage 32, and then is transmitted via a partition 36 to the heat accumulating material 34 having a low melting point. If the temperature of the exhaust gas is high, the heat is accumulated in the material 33 as latent heat of the material 34. As a result, the heat accumulating material 34 would not be exposed directly to high temperature. If the temperature of the exhaust is low, the heat is accumulated as sensible heat of the material 33 and as latent heat of the material 34 without any loss, so that the heat exchange thereof with the water in a water jacket 37 can be efficiently carried out.
