Abstract

PURPOSE:To always obtain as optimum equalization characteristic by evaluating a time difference between a peak interval of a reproducing signal and the case of a correct peak interval, and controlling a constant of an equalizer so that the time difference is eliminated. CONSTITUTION:A two-bit pattern is reproduced, and a peak pulse is generated by a pulse forming circuit 104, and converted to a level of a voltage or a current by a time level converting circuit 111 in order to derive a time interval of a peak pulse of the front part and a peak pulse of the rear part. The converted level is held until a peak pulse of the next two-bit pattern comes, and at the time point when said pulse has come, discharge is started, and the next two-bit pattern is awaited. While the level is being held, a detected level Vn 114 and a reference level Vr 115 in case of a correct bit interval are compared by a level comparator circuit 112. At that time, if there is a difference in the levels, it is outputted as an error signal to an equalizer control circuit 106, and a constant of an equalizer 103 is controlled so that the error signal is eliminated. In such a way, an optimum equalization characteristic can always be maintained.
