Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve reliable overcurrent protection during low speed operation, by switching integration time constants for detecting overcurrent when speed of an AC motor is lower than a predetermined level and stopping an inverter when the output from an integrating means reaches to a predetermined level. CONSTITUTION:When output frequency of an inverter 1 is controlled to control speed of an AC motor 3, current level of the AC motor 3 is detected through a current detector 8 then fed to an integrator 9 and integrated. At this time, speed of the AC motor 3 is detected through a speed detector 5 and fed to a level detector 6 so as to switch integration time constants of the integrator 9 when the speed is lower than a predetermined level. Output from the integrator 9 is compared with a predetermined level in a comparator 10, and if the former is higher, the inverter 1 is disabled. Consequently, overcurrent can be interrupted in short time during low speed operation.
