Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect abnormality of the sine wave encoder by finding the sum of squares of a 1st sine wave signal and a 2nd sine wave signal having pi/2 phase difference from the 1st one outputted by the encoder. CONSTITUTION:The sine wave encoder 10 which is coupled with a motor 9 generates the 1st sine wave signal and the 2nd signal which has pi/2 phase difference from the 1st signal. Those signals are inputted to a microcomputer 5 through comparators 13 and 14, a four-multiplying circuit 3, and an up/down counter 4, and further sample holding circuit 15 and 16, an analog switch 17, and an A/D converter 18. This microcomputer 5 calculates the rotating speed and rotational angle of the motor 9 from the integral value of the up/down counter 4, calculates the sum of squares of the two signals from the A/D converter 18, and detects abnormality of the sine wave encoder 10 when the arithmetic result deviates from a range close to a positive number '1'.
