Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase oxygen gas absorbing capability without decrease in the reactivity of an active material on the surface of an electrode by forming a conductive layer comprising conductive powder, obtained by bonding a water repellent polymer and conductive particles by heat-treatment, and a sticking agent on the surface of active material paste comprising cadmium oxide. CONSTITUTION:A conductive layer is formed with conductive polymer, obtained by bonding a water repellent polymer and conductive particles by heat-treatment, and an organic sticking agent such as polyvinyl alcohol and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin. A sticking agent film exists in the conductive layer and the water repellent polymer is covered and bonded with the conductive particles. The water repellent polymer such as fluorine resin is prevented to enter an active material layer under the conductive layer and decrease in the reactivity of a cadmium electrode is retarded. If fluorine resin is used as the water repellent polymer and the heat-treatment is conducted at a temperature between its melting point and sintering finishing temperature, the fluorine resin retains flexibility and the coming off of conductive particles from the fluorine resin is prevented during crushing. Oxygen gas absorbing capability is increased.
