Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform an imitation linen finishing having enriched durability without inducing lowering of strength by applying a water-soluble polymer solution containing an alkali-reactive crosslinking agent on one face of a woven and knitted fabric comprising cotton fibers and applying an alkali solution. CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of 0.1-10 wt.% of water-soluble polymeric compound (e.g. PVA and polyacrylic acid) or the polymer aqueous solution further containing 0.01-5 wt.% of alkali-reactive crosslinking agent is applied on one face of a woven and knitted fabric comprising cotton fibers and dried, then an alkaline liquid (e.g. sodium hydroxide) having a pH of >=12 is applied on both surfaces, thus soaped and dried. By the method, an imitation linen finishing woven and knitted fabric having excellent durable linen-like crisp feeling, hardness and repellence can be obtained without inducing lowering of strength.
