PURPOSE:To always retain a superconducting coil in a normal state by equipping an apparatus with a solenoid coil generating a magnetic field in the direction of the largest change of a magnetic reluctance in a lead. CONSTITUTION:An overcurrent protecting lead 6 is composed of an La-Sr-Cu-O oxide superconductor and arrows shown in the overcurrent protecting lead 6 indicate C axes out of crystal axes. A solenoid coil 7 is arranged so as to generate the direction of a magnetic field in the direction of the C axis of the overcurrent protecting lead 6. In this case, if overcurrent is going to flow from a power source 2, the solenoid coil 7 increases the magnetic field and the electric resistance of the overcurrent protecting lead 6 so that an electric current flowing through the superconducting coil 1 decreases. After all, overcurrent does not flow so as to cause no quenching of the superconducting coil 1. Therefore, circuits operate in a self-regulative manner and sure protection without malfunctioning is also possible.
