Abstract
PURPOSE:To leach a lubricating agent each slightly atop a magnetic recording layer so that long-term wear resistance is obtd. by impregnating the lubricating agent into many pieces of fine gaps continuous with the surface provided in the magnetic recording layer by removing an org. high polymer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording layer 12 formed by co-vapor deposition of a ferromagnetic metal 10 and the org. high polymer has the structure in which the metal and the org. high polymer stand upright in a columnar shape on a substrate 9. The magnetic recording layer 12 has such structure in which the ferromagnetic metal 10 encloses the circumference of the columnar particles of the org. high polymer when about 1-20vol.% org. high polymer is incorporated into this co-vapor deposited layer. The lubricating agent 11 to be impregnated into the columnar gaps in the magnetic recording layer formed by removing the org. high polymer part after formation of the magnetic recording layer 12 by the co-vapor deposition is dissolved in a suitable solvent and is coated on the surface of the magnetic recording layer 12. The lubricating agent impregnated in the gap parts is thereby leached gradually on the surface of the magnetic recording layer over a long period of time, by which the wear resistance of the magnetic recording medium is improved.
