Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve a sliding wear resistance characteristic (CSS resistance) by coating the surface of a metallic disk with a resin film provided with concentrical or spiral grooves. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the metallic disk 1 is coated with the resin film 2 which is provided with the concentrical or spiral grooves having <=10,000Angstrom groove width, 100-5,000Angstrom groove depth and <=10,000Angstrom groove pitch and has >=1mum thickness. The metallic disk 1 is formed by working a metal such as aluminum or alloy essentially consisting of aluminum to a disk shape. The substrate for the magnetic disk formed with the grooves having the uniform groove width, depth and pitch is, therefore, produced by the simple stage. The CSS resistance is thereby improved.
