Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for mechanical adjusting work, to reduce a cost, and to automatize assembling by detecting and storing the amounting error of a pair of rotary heads, or controlling the timing of a recording or reproducing signal corresponding to a stored value. CONSTITUTION:On a reference magnetic tape reproduced by a pair of rotary magnetic heads A and B separated by 180 deg. mutually, a prescribed reference signal is recorded as an RF signal in advance or at a prescribed position on every track. The difference of the generating timing of the reference signal, that is, a signal corresponding to the amounting error of the rotary heads is generated from the detecting signal of the reference signal and clock signals generated by circuits 23 and 24. The signal is stored in a storage means 26, and a timing signal controls the timing of an input/output signal (recording and reproducing signal) for the rotary head corresponding to the stored value. As a result, the same result can be obtained that the pair of rotary heads A and B are separated by 180 deg. exactly. In such a way, it is not required to adjust the mounting position of the rotary head with high accuracy, and to realize the reduction of the cost and the automation of assembling work.
