Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for drugs, agricultural chemicals and dye through an isothioamide intermediate under a mild condition in high yield, by reacting a 1-amino-2-halobenzene with a thioamide by using a transition metal complex as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A 1-amino-2-halobenzene shown by formula I [X is halogen; R is OH, amino, aldehydo, acyl, carboxyl, 1-3C alkoxy, (halogenated) alkyl, halogen or H] is reacted with a thioamide shown by formula II (R<1> is alkyl or substituted alkyl) in the presence of a transition metal complex [e.g. complex of tris(dibenzylideneacetone)(chloroform)di-palladium(0) and triphenylphosphine and preferably Pd complex] to give an alkylbenzothiazole (e.g. 2- methylbenzothiazole) shown by formula III. This compound is useful as a raw material for antioxidant and polymer stabilizer.
