Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an image recording of high quality and besides, to prevent a recording head from damage, by providing a means capable of regulating a distance between the recording head and a material to be recorded kept with a platen at a specific value by varying it according to a thickness of the material to be recorded. CONSTITUTION:A distance measuring sensor 101 is mounted on a carriage 3 in relation to a recording head 6 and measures a distance between an ink discharge surface 6A of the recording head 6 and a recording paper conducted to a position opposed to the discharge surface 6A along a platen 1, which is, for example, a laser beam sensor. Further, the recording head 6 is made to move freely on the carriage 3 as shown by the arrow, and a distance between the ink discharge surface of the recording head 6 and the recording paper can be regulated by moving the recording head 6 with a head transfer motor 102. A distance between the recording paper supplied to the platen 1 and the discharge surface 6A of the recording head is measured with the distance measuring sensor 101 at a paper feed position informed with a paper feed positional detection sensor 102, and the distance is regulated at a specific appropriate value.
