Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce the title derivative wherein the conjugated system is long enough and has extended orderly, and which is excellent in electrical conductivity and is suitable for pattern forming resist materials, by irradiating a specific monosubstituted diacetylene compound with ultraviolet light to photopolymerize it. CONSTITUTION:This polyethynylacetylene derivative has a structure having recurring units represented by formula I (wherein R is formula II; n is 8-22; M is a divalent to tetravalent metal ion or a proton; and m is the valence of the ion M) and the number of the units is represented by an integer in the range of 10-1,000. This derivative can be produced by forming a Langmuir- Blodgett film of a compound of formula IV synthesized from a compound of formula III as a raw material, and irradiating the Langmuir-Blodgett film with an energetic ray such as gamma ray, electron beam, X ray, ultraviolet ray or infrared ray, thereby photopolymerizing it.
