Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent excessive reduction of an idle rotation speed and to prevent the generation of engine stall, by a method wherein, when an actual idle rotation speed is continuously reduced to a value lower than a set rotation speed for a given period, an air-fuel ratio is rarefied. CONSTITUTION:When an idle switch 5 is turned ON and a neutral switch 6 is turned ON, it is decided by a control device 1 that an engine is in an idle running state. In this case, an air-fuel ratio is rarefied by controlling reduction of a fuel injection amount when an actual fuel injection amount detected by a rotation speed sensor 2 is continuously maintained at a value lower than a set rotation speed for a given time. As a result, since an engine temperature is suddenly increased during warming up, ice adhered to a throttle valve can be molten, and reduction of the rotation speed and the occurrence of engine stall due to icing can be prevented.
