Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture barium ferrite powder having small particle size and excellent particle size distribution efficiently by wet-reacting an aqueous solution including Fe3+ and Ba2+ or suspension containing a hydroxide thereof at normal pressure in high concentration alkali and thermally treating a barium ferrite product acquired in air.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution containing Fe3+ and Ba2+ or suspension including a hydroxide thereof or both aqueous solution and suspension are wet-reacted at normal pressure in alkali concentration of 6W20mol/l, and a barium ferrite product obtained is thermally treated in air. When coercive-force reducing element ions such as Co2+ are added previously to the aqueous solution containing Fe3+ and Ba2+ or suspension including the hydroxide thereof, the coercive force of barium ferrite powder acquired is inhibited. When coercive- force increasing element ions such as Al3+ are added beforehand to the aqueous solution containing Fe3+ and Ba2+ or suspension including the hydroxide thereof, on the contrary, the coercive force of barium ferrite powder obtained is elevated.
