Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled hydrate having such fluidizing characteristics as facilitate handling by adding a predetermined amount of an aqueous alkali aluminate soln. to a soln. of halohydrins kept at a specified temp. at a predetermined speed. CONSTITUTION:To a soln. of halohydrins kept at >=50 deg.C is added an aqueous alkali aluminate soln. adjusted to one equivalent or less to one equivalent of halohydrin at a speed where the pH of the mixed soln. does not exceed 11 while maintaining the temp. The mixed soln. is then allowed to stand at >=50 deg.C and <=9.5pH for >=10min to obtain the titled hydrate. This hydrate is spherical cohered particles of flaky single crystals and has 8-120mu average particle size, 150-400m<2>/g specific surface area, <=37 deg. angle of repose, <=0.3 degree of compression, <=0.05wt% Na2O content as anhydride and >=99.9wt% Al2O3 content. It can be utilized for various purposes such as absorbent and catalyst.
