Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an information recording medium having a uniform recording layer and being free of changes in a substrate, by incorporating a specified compound into the recording layer in an optical information recording medium using a plastic substrate. CONSTITUTION:At least one compound of general formula (I) or (II) is incorporated in a recording layer, in an optical information recording medium in which the recording layer, comprising a polymethine coloring matter as a main constituent, is provided on a plastic substrate either directly or with an undercoat layer therebetween, and a protective layer is provided, if required, on the recording layer. In the formulas, each of R<1>, R<2> and R<3> is an alkyl, acyl or hydrogen. The substrate is formed from a plastic, e.g., a polyester, an acrylic resin, a polyamide, a polyolefin resin, a phenolic resin, an epoxy resin or a polyimide. The amount of the ester compound in the recording layer is 0.01-10wt.%, preferably 0.1-3wt.%, based on the polymethine coloring matter. The information recording medium is excellent in uniformity of the polymethine coloring matter film constituting the recording layer, is free of swelling of the substrate, and is free of variations in signal level.
