Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the engine-braking performance and to reduce both a noise and fuel consumption by setting the target engine peed at the time of throttle-full-closed at a high value together with setting the target engine speed at a low value as the throttle opening increases. CONSTITUTION:The operational conditions of a vehicle, which are detected by a plurality of sensors 61 to 65, i.e., the engine speed, vehicle speed, driven shaft revolving speed, shift position, and throttle opening are input into an electronic controller 60. The electronic controller 60 outputs a control signal in such a manner that the actual engine speed approaches the target engine speed which is set in correspondence to at least the throttle opening, thereby controlling both a start controlling solenoid 46 of the engine and a pulley controlling solenoid 44 for a continuously variable transmission. In this case, the target engine speed is set in such a manner that the engine speed for the low throttle opening range is lower than that for throttle-full-closed.
