Solid-Phase Diffusion Into Metallic Material Surfaces
(AREA)
Abstract
PURPOSE:To smooth ruggedness occurring at the time of thermal diffusion and to improve formability and workability, by coating a copper (alloy) bar with dissimilar metal, subjecting the above bar to thermal diffusion treatment, and then applying plastic deformation to the above at a specific reduction in area. CONSTITUTION:Both sides of a copper (alloy) bar are coated with dissimilar metal or alloy such as Zn (alloy). Subsequently, the above bar is subjected to thermal diffusion treatment and then, as the final stage, to plastic deformation by means of skin pass rolling, etc., at 1-5% reduction in area, by which ruggedness inevitably occurring in the bar surface at the time of thermal diffusion is smoothed. By this method, a surface modified copper alloy bar excellent in formability and workability can be obtained without adversely affecting the properties of the product.
