Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable cut off of transmission of torque from an input shaft to an output shaft by means of a low control force, by a method wherein a thrust force generated due to gearing between two dog teeth is utilized. CONSTITUTION:When a solenoid 97 is energized and a sleeve 8 is moved forward during transmission of a power from an input shaft 1 to an output shaft 2 through engagement of a dog clutch 10, a ball 6 is first released from press in an engaging groove 16. Since a thrust force generated by engagement of dog teeth 42 of a dog piece 4, secured on the output shaft 2, with dog teeth 52 of a hub 5, spline-engaged at 15 and 51 with the input shaft 1, during rotation is exerted, the ball 6 is disengaged from the engaging groove 16 by means of the thrust force and is protruded from a guide surface 88 of the rear inner peripheral surface of the sleeve 8. Simultaneously, the hub 5 is moved forward over the input shaft 1 to release the two dog teeth 42... and 52... from engagement.
