Abstract

PURPOSE: To minimize the device and enable engine-brake to work at a reduced speed by making an input or output gear wheel rotate at a high or low speed with a load-sensitive centrifugal clutch and enabling a plurality of automatic engagements in response to the vehicle speed with a plurality of speed-sensitive centrifugal clutches. CONSTITUTION: When engine speed is raised, a load-sensitive centrifugal clutch 22 comes in to engage a drum 20 and connect a gear wheel 8 with an input shaft 2 so that engagement of the first speed at high speed side is realized. In the meantime, as the engine speed is lower than the first speed at low speed side, the vehicle speed does not respond immediately. As vehicle speed is being raised gradually, a speed-sensitive centrifugal clutch 28 is engaged so that engagement of the second speed at high speed side is realized, i.e., engagement according to predetermined vehicle speed but irrelative to engine speed is realized. Then a speed-sensitive centrifugal clutch 26 comes in and engine speed is raised gradually until the input gear wheel rotates at the rotating speed of the engine so that the third speed at high speed side is realized. In the meantime, the engine speed is once again lower. It is being accelerated with less throttle opening until it reaches the maximum vehicle speed.
