Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare a microgel which has a high degree of crosslinking and is free from aggregation or sedimentation for a long time, by the emulsion polymn. of divinylbenzene and a styrene monomer in the presence of an anionic surface active agent and a specified polymn. initiator. CONSTITUTION:The object microgel is prepared by the emulsion polymn of 0.12-33wt.% divinylbenzene and 99.88-67wt.% styrene monomer in the presence of an anionic surface active agent and 2,2'-azobis(isobutyramide)dihydrate as a polymn. initiator. The 2,2'-azobis(isobutyramide)dihydrate should be used in an amt. of 0.3-5wt.% per mixture of the styrene monomer with the divinylbenzene. If its amt. is less than 0.3wt.%, its effect will tend to fall, and the rate of polymn. is also lowered; if its amt. exceeds 5wt.%, the polymn. will be accompanied by such a great heat build-up that the microgel obtd. will tend to be aggregated or coalesced.
