Abstract
PURPOSE: The suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride is conducted in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol, hydroxypropylcellulose, and hydroxymethylpropylcellulose to produce polyvinyl chloride with sharp particle size distribution and high density and porosity.
CONSTITUTION: In the suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride only or a mixture thereof with a minor amount of other comploymerizable monomers, is used a suspension stabilizer consisting of (A) a polyvinyl alcohol with an average polymerization degree of 300W2500, preferably 600W1200, and an average saponification degree of 65W80, preferably 70W75 mol%, (B) a hydroxypropylcellulose with a viscosity of less than 500 cps measured with its 2 wt% aqueous solution at 20°C, and (C) a hydroxymethylpropylcellulose with a viscosity of less than 1000 cps measured with its 2 wt% aqueous solution at 20°C wherein (A) is 40W90 wt% and the weight ratio of (B)/(C) is adjusted to 5W40/95W60.
