Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for chemicals and to preclude a decrease in strength by flawing a bare optical fiber after a bare optical fiber part is exposed, and applying bending and tensile stress to the bare optical fiber part without contacting and thus cutting the bare optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The clad part of a cladded optical fiber 1 is heated and the clad is displaced lengthwise slightly to expose the bare optical fiber part 2, and then the bare optical fiber 2 is flawed and the bare optical fiber part 2 is applied with the bending and tensile stress without contacting, thereby cutting the bare optical fiber 2. Then the clad is removed again to expose the bare optical fiber to specific length, the surface of the bare optical fiber is cleaned by discharging and coated with a thin film, and the optical fiber is set in a V groove 12 and welded, thereby reinforcing the connection part. Thus, the bare optical fiber is processed without contacting any other body in all processes including the removal and cutting of the clad and no chemicals, etc., are used, so a high-strength connection of high quality is made in an extremely short time.
