Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate fogging at a no-image part and to transfer an image part excellently by applying a recording medium previously with a liquid transfer auxiliary agent at the time of transfer bringing the recording medium into contact with an image holding surface, and transferring a developed image on an image holding surface to the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A transfer auxiliary agent supply device 20 consists of a transfer auxiliary agent tank 21 which contains the liquid transfer auxiliary agent, a pump 22 which sends out the transfer auxiliary agent, a transfer auxiliary agent supply roller 23 which applies the recording medium 16 with a transfer agent, and a pressure roller 24. Then the transfer auxiliary agent which is sucked up by the pump 22 is applied on the recording medium 16 and moves to a transfer position in synchronism with the peripheral speed of an image holder 1. Then when the recording medium is brought to contact with the image holding surface for transfer, the transfer auxiliary agent applied over the recording medium forms a liquid layer where toner particles migrate between the recording medium and image holding surface. Consequently, a pre-mixed toner layer sticking on the side of the image holding surface is made extremely small to enable excellent transfer, thereby obtaining an excellent image having no fogging at its no-image part.
