Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a high-carbon steel sheet having high strength and ductility by heating a cold rolled sheet consisting of a high-carbon steel to austenite structure, then subjecting the sheet to heat treatment under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:A steel slab having the compsn. contg., by wt.%, 0.20-0.70% C, 0.5-3.0% Si, 0.5-2.5% Mn, <=0.010% P, and <=0.010% S is worked by hot rolling and cold rolling to a sheet material of a desired thickness. This high- carbon steel sheet is heated and held for 1-10min to and at the temp. above the AC3 transformation point to austenitize the structure. The steel sheet is then cooled within 5min in a 650-775 deg.C range at >=20 deg.C/sec cooling rate down to the holding temp. below said temp. range and after the steel sheet is held for 1-15min at 350-450 deg.C holding temp., the steel sheet is cooled down to room temp. The high-carbon steel sheet having >=90kg/mm<2> tensile strength and excellent ductility is produced at a low cost.
