Abstract

PURPOSE:To assure a necessary signal to noise ratio (C/N) and to improve durability by providing a solid lubricating agent on the uppermost layer of magnetic recording layers consisting of a multi-layered structure of thin ferromagnetic metallic films in such a manner that said layer contains the projections of the solid lubricating agent and the tips of the projections are exposed form the thin ferromagnetic metallic films. CONSTITUTION:A 1st thin ferromagnetic metallic film 2 and the 2nd thin ferromagnetic metallic film 3 are provided in the multi-layered structure on a high-polymer film 1. The 2nd thin ferromagnetic metallic film 3 contains fine particles 4 of the solid lubricating agent and is exposed with the tips of the projections. The direct contact of a composite magnetic head of an alloy system and the magnetic recording layers is, therefore, obviated and the solid lubricating agent 4 makes contact even if the liquid lubricating film is ruptured. The recording medium, therefore, has the good lubricating characteristic and is capable of maintaining the good mating property with the head and maintaining the C/N. Since the thin ferromagnetic metallic film 2 exits under the projections of the solid lubricating agent 4 and is resistant to deformation, the stresses exerted on the projections are uniformly dispersed. The structure of the projections has a recovering property and the durability therewith is assured.
