Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase SV value and enhance treatment capacity by using catalysts modified by means of making a carbon material of specific surface area of 20-1,500m<2>/g contact with ammonia and gas containing oxygen at the temperature of 150-450 deg.C. CONSTITUTION:A carbon material such as active carbon or the like with a specific surface area of 20-1,500m<2>/g is modified by making the same contact with ammonia of approximately 2vol.% or more and gas containing approximately 1vol.% or more with SV value approximately 50-10,000h<-1> at the temperature of 150-400 deg.C for 10min or more. As for components other than modified gas, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, water vapor or any others not affecting badly the carbon material such as combustion gas or the like can be used. Then, ammonia is added to exhaust gas, which is made in contact with catalysts of modified carbon material prepared at the temperature of approximately 60-200 deg.C and denitrated. By said process, SV value of exhaust gas can be increased and treatment capacity is enhanced to a large extent to obtain a sufficient denitration effect.
