CONSTITUTION:A detection roller 4 is borne axially by a rotatable detection lever 3, while a spring 7 pressing the roller 4 on a reference roller 2 and a detection body 23 are fitted to the lever 3, and the displacement of the detection body 23 accompanying the rotation of the lever 3 is detected by means of a detecting element 10. Thereby the amount of displacement of the roller 4 to the roller 2 is detected. When a paper sheet P proceeds between the rollers 2 and 4, according to this constitution, the roller 4 is displaced to the roller 2 in accordance with the thickness of the sheet.
