Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain always prescribed fixing performance by mounting a pressure setting device variablly setting a pair of roller elements and the pressure applied by the roller elements according to the thickness of a toner carrying sheet to be used. CONSTITUTION:When the leading edge of a toner carrying sheet is inserted between detecting rollers 24, 25 of a detector 23, the detecting roller 25 is separated from the ddtecting roller 24 according to the thickness of the sheet and a swing arm 27 starts to rotate. Consequently, a differential transformer 28 outputs an electric signal to a controlling device 21 according to the rotational speed of the arm, namely, the thickness of said sheet. The controlling device 21 finds the proper rotational angle of a pulse motor 18 according to the electric signal and outputs a control signal to a pulse generator 20 after passing a prescribed period from the time the electric signal has been received. Therefore, when the leading edge of the sheet is inserted between the roller elements 6, 7, the pulse generator 20 outputs a prescribed pulse signal to the motor 17, so that the sheet is pressed with prescribed pressure by the roller elements 6, 7 and a toner image formed on the sheet is fixed by pressure.
