PURPOSE:To prevent toner from moving onto the reverse surface of recording paper at its leading and trailing edges, by carrying the recording paper at a speed lower than the peripheral speed of a drum in the process where the leding edge of the recording paper meets the toner and by making the carrying speed higher than the drum peripheral speed in the process where the tailing edge meets the toner. CONSTITUTION:Recording paper 1 having a latent image formed on it and cut to a constant length is carried by capstan 14 and pinch roller 13; when its leading edge is detected by photosensor 33, pulse motor 5 driving capstan 14 decreases in speed and when the leading edge of recording paper 1 reaches rotary drum part 23, its carrying speed becoms lower than the peripheral speed or rotary drum 23. When the tailing edge of recording paper 1 reaches rotary drum part 23, photosensor 33 does not detect recording paper 1, and consequently pulse motor 5 is so controlled that the recording paper carrying speed will be higher than the peripheral speed of rotary drum 23.
