Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform adjustment of the gap between a recording electrode and a back electrode with good accuracy by a simple control system and mechanism by providing a gap sensor on the side of the recording electrode forming electrostatic latent images. CONSTITUTION:When recording paper 1 is conveyed to the recording position, the electrostatic capacity between an electrode 27 and back electrode 8 changes and therefore the recording paper is detected. This detection signal is sent via control circuit 25 to a motor 23, then the motor 23 starts running to drive the recording electrode 7 toward the back electrode 8 by way of a coupler 24. Thereafter, the control circuit 25 so operates that when the gap between the electrode 27 and back electrode 8 reaches the specified one, the motor 23 stops running. Arrangement is so made that during the time when the recording paper 1 passes between the recording electrode 7 and back electrode 8 the specified gap is accurately maintained. This requires only one gap sensor, makes the control circuit and mechanisms less intricate and enables the inter-electrode gap to be accurately adjusted.
