Abstract

1,258,952. Electro-photographic copier. EASTMAN KODAK CO. July 25, 1969 [July 30, 1968], No.37405/69. Heading G2H. In an electro-photographic apparatus in which a photo-conductive member is recycled through a number of processing stations including a development station with a development electrode the bias applied to the electrode is increased automatically after a predetermined number of cycles thus compensating for deterioration of the photo-conductive member, due to residual toner, which causes development in background areas. As shown, the number of copies produced is determined by sensor 18 and counter 17 and a signal applied to motor 22 to vary the potential applied to magnetic brushes 9 and 10 after a predetermined number of cycles. The adjustment of the potential may be linked with other operating elements of the apparatus e.g. the drive chain on the toner dispenser and the variable potential may be applied to a backing electrode, Fig.4 (not shown).
