Abstract

PURPOSE: To surely detect the overlap of sheets of paper, by conducting two or more overlapped sheets of paper to a displacement section to obliquely displace the sheets from each other by resistance applied to them to protrude a part of the sheet out of an allowable passage width.
CONSTITUTION: An overlap detector 11, which is applied to a cash dispenser or the like, comprises a paper money displacement section and a detecting section. The displacement section is composed of a roller 13 which is rotated in contact with the reverse side of the end of paper money 25 and a resistor 14 which faces the roller 13 across a gap l through which a single piece of paper money passes. The detecting section is made of a photosensor 16. When overlapped pieces of paper money 25 are delivered, their speed of passing through the displacement section 15 is reduced so that the upper and the lower pieces of paper money are displaced from each other and sent out as their central parts are obliquely displaced by the normal send-out rotation of a roller 18. As a result, the length of the pieces of paper money 25 perpendicular to their feed direction is increased to operate the photosensor 16 to detect the overlap of the paper money.
