Abstract

1432596 Feeding webs VAN DYK RESEARCH CORP 24 Aug 1973 [2 Oct 1972] 40141/73 Heading B8R A web support plate 10 across which a web 20 may be fed is provided with pairs of web sensors L1, R1; L2, R2; L3, R3; and a middle web sensor C which may be offset from the centre position, the outer pair of sensors L3, R3 being spaced a distance greater than the width of the widest web to be fed across the plate, and the sensors being associated with switching elements and a logic circuit to provide a web width signal and a warning signal when (i) the middle sensor is not activated, denoting severe misregister of the web or web feed failure, (ii) when only one sensor of a pair is activated, and (iii) when either sensor of the outer pair is activated, both denoting web misregister. The device may be used in a copying machine where various width webs can be utilized, the sensors comprising pivotable levers (15), Fig. 2 (not shown), which project through apertures 11, 14 in the plate and actuate switches (18). The web may be held adjacent the plate by guide rollers or an apertured guide plate. A visual display of the web width may be provided and the sensors may operate a skew correcting device or stop the feed.
