Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce the titled composite material having high BN contents and having excellent lubricity at a high temp. by uniformly mixing specific amounts of BN secondary grains granulated by a resinous binder to cast iron powder, press molding the mixture into the desired shape and thereafter annealing the same. CONSTITUTION:PVA as a resinous binder to which water is added is heated to melt; BN powder as a solid lubricant is added thereto; they are then uniformly mixed by a ball mill and are thereafter heated and dried. The dried material is furthermore ground and classified to produce the BN secondary grains having a well-regulated grain size distribution. Said BN secondary grains are added to the cast iron powder contg. <=40wt.% pure iron powder such as carbonyl iron powder to mix; the mixture is press molded into the desired shape in a mold and is thereafter sintered at a high temp. to produce the titled composite material. Since the BN powder as a solid lubricant is granulated by the resinous binder, the bond of BN with cast iron powder is strengthened compared to the case of using BN as powder and much BN can be used compared with the conventional ways, by which the high temp. lubricity of the material is furthermore improved.
