Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent errors from being generated in reading of a record or in other operation owing to optical distortion or birefringence, by providing an optical recording layer on a specified polyester film comprising a polyester resin having a limit birefringence value of not more than 0.10. CONSTITUTION:A polyester film is produced by the usual method by using a polyester film having a limit birefringence value of not more than 0.10, the glass transition temperature of the film being set to at least 70 deg.C, preferably, 80-250 deg.C. More preferably, the film has a retardation of not more than 30nm, a crystallinity of 8-25% and a flexural modulus of at least 330kg/mm<2>. A hard coat layer is provided on one side of the polyester film, whereas a UV- curable layer is provided on the other side, and is cured after being grooved. Then, an optical recording layer is provided on the UV-cured layer. By this, an optical recording medium with high reliability can be obtained.
