Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled superconductor nearly free from pinholes by successively enclosing a specified body to be pressed with a first electrode, a pressure transmitting medium and a second electrode abutted therewith, placing the enclosed body in an autoclave, heating and pressing the body through a gaseous pressing medium and impressing DC voltage between these electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A body 1 to be pressed is successively enclosed with a first porous electrode 3, a pressure transmitting medium 2 made of a fluorine ion conductive solid such as beta-PbF2 and further abutted with a second porous electrode 4. The body 1 contains Y or a rare earth element, Ba or other alkaline earth element, Cu and F and may be composed of, for example, Y2O3, BaCO3 and CuF2. The enclosed body is placed in an autoclave 15 so that DC voltage can be impressed between the electrodes 3, 4 through a power source 5 and lead wires 6, 7. Gaseous Ar and F2 are introduced into the autoclave 15 from cylinders 10, 11 as a gaseous pressing medium 9 having a prescribed compsn. and the medium 9 is heated to >=1,000 deg.C with heating elements 8. This high temp. and a high pressure of >=100MPa are transmitted to the body 1 through the medium 2 and simultaneously voltage is impressed between the electrodes 3, 4. The temp. is then slowly reduced and the titled superconductor is obtd. by hydrostatic pressing.
