Abstract

PURPOSE:To weaken liquid crystal molecule control power by rubbing by rubbing at least one of substrates in one direction, then rubbing the same in the direction opposite thereto. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 3, 4 consisting of ITO films and oriented films 5, 6 consisting of polyimide, etc., are successively formed on the transparent glass substrates 1, 2. The film 6 is then subjected to the rubbing treatment by a rubbing cloth consisting of nylon, etc., in one direction 7 and is subjected to the rubbing treatment in the direction 8 opposite thereto. The films 5, 6 are thereafter disposed to face each other to form a cell and a ferroelectric liquid crystal is injected therein. The rubbing of the weak molecule control power is enabled by this method, by which the orientation of the liquid crystal is improved and the ferroelectric liquid crystal cell having bistability is formed.
