Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent development of double skin caused by folding solidified shell by inclining metal casing of a side dam from outer edge of the casting to outer part of a cast slab and making large degree of upstream side of the cast slab and small degree of downstream side for the sloping angle of the inclination to the casting axis. CONSTITUTION:By supplying the molten metal into a mold composing of twin belts 20, 21 and the side dams 28 from a nozzle 34 in a tundish 33, while rotating the twin belts 20, 21 it is drawn as a cast slab T. The solidified shells 40, 41 at long wall side of the mold are formed at the upstream part in the mold, and by the metal casings 30, 31 for the side dam 28 composing of refractory 29 at center part, the solidified shells 42, 43 are formed at the short wall side of the cast slab. The solidified shells 42, 43 are formed as inclining corresponding to the sloping angle theta of the metal casings 30, 31. As the solidified shells 42, 43 are fallen to inside of the mold, the metal casings 30, 31 follow to falling variation of the solidified shells as going to downstream of the mold. At the position C, where the twin belts 20, 21 come to parallel, theta is made to '0', to make parallel of both solidified shell. By this method, the gap between the metal casing and the solidified shell is not developed and the double skin at the short wall side of the molten metal is not developed and the yield can be improved.
