Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a mold extending service life by executing chromium plating on casting surface of the mold base body composing of precipitation hardening type copper alloy and making less than the specific quantity per unit chromium of hydrogen quantity in the chromium plated layer. CONSTITUTION:The chromium plated layer is formed on the casting surface of the mold base body and the hydrogen quantity in this chromium plating is limited to <=100ml/100g chromium. By this method, as this chromium plated layer has low plated stress and is difficult to exfoliate, it has excellent wear resistance. After forming the chromium plating, the heat treatment is executed at 200-800 deg.C for 30min-3hr, to discharge hydrogen gas absorbed in the plated layer and it can be reduced to the above hydrogen gas concn. By reducing the hydrogen quantity, the plated stress is lowered and stickness of the plated layer is made to good and the wear resistance is improved and the mold having long service life can be obtd.
