Abstract

PURPOSE:To charge a photosensitive body electrostatically not by corona discharge and to reduce the size of an image forming device by charging an insulating film electrostatically with a voltage which is applied from an electrode capable of contacting the surface of the photosensitive body. CONSTITUTION:When the photosensitive drum 12 rotates as shown by an arrow while the electrode 24 is in contact with the surface of the photosensitive drum 12, the voltage +V of a power source 26 is applied to a light transmissive conductor 18 and an insulator 20. Then the insulator 20 is charged electrostatically. When the surface of the photosensitive drum 12 charged electrostatically to the voltage +V moves to right below an LED array 22 and is irradiated with light corresponding to a light image from the LED array 22, the light is transmitted through the light transmissive conductor 18 to reach a photosensitive layer 16. Consequently, the light transmissive conductor 18 and a base body 14 are connected electrically to each other. Thereafter, charges accumulated in insulators 20 positioned on both sides of the exposed light transmissive conductor 18 move to the base body 14 to form an electrostatic latent image on the surface of the photosensitive drum 12.
