Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an electrostatic latent image without using corona discharge, by using an image forming material provided with a pattern different in electric conductivity and insulating characteristics in a photoconductor, applying voltage from a specified electrode to said material and illuminating it for the formation of an image. CONSTITUTION:Conductive elements 1 and other conductive elements 2 are arranged on insulating substrate 5 in a specified pattern. Insulating covers 3 are formed around elements 1, but not around elements 2, and elements 2 are grounded via lead wire 6b. Photoconductive material 4 is coated on elements 1, 2. DC voltage source 6 is applied to elements 1 via switch (S), and elements 1 are imagewise exposed, thus permitting charge to flow to elements 2 via photconductive material 4 in the parts exposed to light (L) but charge to remain in the parts not exposed, and so an electrostatic latent image to be formed without using corona discharge.
