Abstract

PURPOSE: To control image making speeds amd obtain the fog-free images of required densities by changing the voltage and polarity of a low voltage source with a changeover switch.
CONSTITUTION: An electrode 3 having a photoconductive layer 1 and an electrode 4 for applying voltage are held at a spacing of about 20 to 500μ and the developing solution composed primarily of the insulation type organic solvent containing charged toner 6 is put therebetween. First, if a changeover switch 7 is set at the shortcircuit contact 17a, the charged toner 6 disperses evenly in the developing solution. Next, when the switch is changed over to the high voltage application contact 17b and exposure is done, then the toner 6 having been charged to plus polarity moves to the surface of the photoconductive layer 1 and deposits thereon. When the switch is changed over to the low voltage application contact 17c and a voltage of several V to 1000V is applied between the electrodes after this, then the toner images are formed on the surface of the substrate 5. Next, when the switch is changed over to 17d, then the electrodes 3, 4 are electrically cut off, due to which the formation of the toner image is suspended, whereby the toner images of nescessary densities are obtained.
