Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce many array substrates from one substrate and to reduce cost by adopting the constitution consisting in sealing a liquid crystal between the array substrate having switching elements and protruding electrodes and the substrate to be mounted with ICs for driving. CONSTITUTION:The array substrate is constituted by forming Y-direction and X-direction signal lines 2, 3 which form the switching elements and the protruding electrodes 10 having conductive joint layers 11 on an insulating substrate 9. The array substrate is connected to the IC substrate for driving formed by providing wiring patterns 14 and terminal electrode parts 13 on the substrate 12 and the liquid crystal 7 is sealed between the two substrates, then the ICs 4, 5 for driving are packaged thereon. Many pieces of the array parts are formed on one substrate and such substrate is cut to form the array substrates, by which the cost is reduced. The defect-free liquid crystal display devices are produced by inspecting the switching elements prior to mounting of the array substrates to the IC substrates.
