Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce the titled ferromanganese in a high Mn yield from high C ferromanganese by a simple installation in low temp. operation by sending oxygen only from a top-blown lance in a reactor and optimizing the blowing conditions of said top-blown gas. CONSTITUTION:An oxidizing gas is blown by the top-blown lance 4 on the molten metal 2 of high C ferromanganese while it is stirred by a nonoxidizing gas from a tuyere 5 of the reactor 1 to decarbonize said molten metal. In this case, said blown refining is executed in such a manner that concave depth L of the bath surface on the molten metal 2 by the top-blown gas calculated in the formula I, II and III is regulated to <=200mm. In said formulas, (h) denotes the interval (mm) between the bath surface and the tip of the lance 4, Lh denotes the concave depth (mm) in the case of h=0, Q denotes the feeding rate (Nm<3>/min) of the top-blown gas, (n) denotes the number of nozzles in the lance 4, (d) denotes the diameter (mm) of the nozzle in the lance 4, theta denotes the angle between the axis of the nozzle in the lance 4 and the central axis of the lance 4 and (k) denotes the coefficient found from the formula III. By this method, medium and low C ferromanganese can be obtd. at relatively low temp. and in a high yield.
