Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve settleability of floc and removal performance of COD and to reduce amount of residual ions by adding water and acid to metallic hydroxide or metallic oxide and using a heated sol-type flocculating agent to drainage treatment. CONSTITUTION:A sol-type flocculating agent is obtained by adding water and acid such as sulfuric acid to hydroxide or oxide of metal such as aluminum or iron and heating the mixture. When using this flocculating agent to drainage treatment, ionic reaction, colloidal reaction and adsorption reaction to flocculated floc are simultaneously performed between suspended solid and the flocculating agent and produced floc is rapidly settled. At this time, in case the particle diameter of hydroxide or oxide is smaller than 0.5mum, strength of floc is made weak and settling velocity is made slow, in case it exceeds 5mum, flocculating reaction is made slow. In this sol-type flocculating agent, settleability of floc and removal performance of COD are improved and strength of floc is made large and such effect that floc is not redissolved out from a filter layer is shown.
