Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit the formation of the ferrite with a better characteristics by recovering the ferrous hydroxide obtained at a pH of 9-11 as sediment with ferrite and coagulant added thereto and adding Fe<3+> ion thereto, so that Fe<3+>/Fe<2+> ions will attain a value of 1-2. CONSTITUTION:The surface of ferrous hydroxide maintained at a pH of 9-11 by the addition of an alkaline agent indicates a positive value and the surface thereof indicates a negative value when doped with ferrite in such proportions that the weight of the ferrite is not less than one time that of the ferrous hydroxide. For this reason, the adsorption of these constituents is easily conducted. Such mixture is then subjected to coagulation settling by the addition of a highly molecular coagulant so as to reduce the volume of the sediment. This ferrous hydroxide is thereafter mixed with ferric salt or ferric hydroxide, so that Fe<3+>/Fe<2+> ions will attain a value of 1-2 and, after being adjusted to alkaline pH side, this mixture is aged to form ferrite. By this process, the concentration of the Fe<2+> ion in the recovered sediment can be increased and a highly magnetized ferrite can be obtained from such sediment.
