Abstract

PURPOSE: To absorb bending moment introduced into a hull and reduce stress applied to a rudder post by composing a rudder opening bearing as a cantilever including a vertical hole in the center for storing the rudder post for a rudder blade and providing a separate bearing for the rudder blade on the outer wall in the position approximately the same height as that of the bearing inside the vertical hole. CONSTITUTION: A rudder opening bearing 20 as a cantilever is provided with a longitudinal hole 25 in the internal center for storing a rudder post 40 for a rudder blade 30 and a bearing 50 is arranged in the hole 25 for fitting the rudder blade 30 in it. A separate bearing 51 for receiving and supporting the rudder blade 30 is provided on the outer wall of approximately the same height as the bearing 50 and the lower end 40b of the rudder post 40 arranged inside the rudder blade 30 is positioned near the center line 200 of a propeller shaft. By arranging bearings 50, 51 in such a manner, bending moment initially introduced into the rudder opening bearing 20 through the rudder post 40 and then into the hull in the position of the rudder 40 is effectively absorbed and stress applied to the rudder post 40 is reduced.
